History
In 2004 Edmund le Grelle established Belgique Badges. Through his involvement in Scouts, as a youth and then an adult leader, Edmund first became interested in badges by collecting them. Of the scout events Edmund organised, some required badges, and this led him to making them.
Starting with embroidered and woven badges, things have grown from there. Metal pin badges, printed badges and ribbons, name labels, flags and banners, and epaulettes are now being made.
Before Belgique Badges was established, Edmund’s design skills were applied to cartography (map making). These are now used to assist clients in creating high quality badges and patches.
The name of the business reflects Edmund’s ancestry. His father migrated from Belgium to New Zealand in the 1960s. Belgique is the French word for Belgium.
The logo is influenced from the lion on Belgium’s coat of arms and also the lions on the coat of arms of Edmund’s family.
Belgique is pronounced “bel-zheek” [bɛlʒik] and rhymes with unique – which is a feature we want to incorporate into your badge.
We look forward to receiving your design and creating a badge for you.
